Game Review - Dweebs 3: Furbidden Planet
Dweebs 3: Furbidden Planet is a 2D game that consists of helping cute, fuzzy aliens on their quest back to find their home planet, Cygus X. To assist them on their quest home, the player must help the dweebs solve puzzles on 20 different planets that require the player to logically find the best path for these little aliens to travel. At first glance, the game seems simple until you take into account that the game is throwing multiple obstacles at you, while giving fewer than 90 seconds to complete each level.

Graphics: 8
Surprisingly, the game has very well developed graphics and sprites to add to the mood of the game. Normally I would say cartoon-like graphics can ruin a game due to the fact they are overdone, but in this game, the style compliments the theme of the game very well.
Sound: 10
When the player first starts Dweebs 3, it is obvious the game is meant to be cute and comical with characters that look like colored cotton balls. Knowing this, the circus style music compliments this game perfectly, helping provide a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Even the sounds made by these creatures are cute and comical, helping encourage the player to keep helping these little rascals.
Game Play: 9
After getting past a small learning curve, the game plays beautifully. All the controls work as described and I could not find any obvious bugs during my playtime. Dweebs 3 is operated by clicking little directional icons on your mouse to help your little alien friend determine which way to move. The directions for the game were a bit unclear on this matter, however, causing some confusion at the beginning of the game. Keeping in mind that typically the first level is designed to have a learning curve, I was surprised to find that the first stage was the most difficult out of the five I tested. Racing against the timer, I can see how some players might give up quickly, not giving the game a chance due to the developers lack of accounting for new players having to learn the game. For players who are fans of this series, nothing has changed from pervious versions.
Options: 5
One of the most disappointing features in this game is its lack of options. The game has only two levels of difficulty, normal and harder. For a player who has never played these games, or a child, the game could seem difficult without an easy mode to help players learn the game. In the future, I could see incorporating an easier mode for these players that allowed more time in each of the levels. Other than difficulty, the only other options available in the game were very basic directions, a full screen/windowed mode selection, and the ability to pause the game.

Fun: 8
Dweebs 3 is a fun, entertaining game, but it is easy to become frustrated when you start playing the game. As I had to learn to use the controls, which were somewhat unclear at first, I died constantly on the first level, unsure how to get my little creature to move. Once I got past the learning curve with the controls, the game was rather simple. As the levels progressed, I had fun with the game, but was a bit disappointed that it did not seem to become progressively harder.
Overall: 8
I felt that Dweebs 3 was a fun little game, but I am unsure what the target audience was for this game. It seemed designed for children with the cartoon style, but the puzzle difficulty seems a bit high for the average child. With its design, an adult can expect this little game to keep them busy for hours with its puzzles, but don’t expect this game to be particularly mentally stimulating. If you desire a cute, moderately challenging puzzle game, I recommend playing Dweebs 3.
