Puzzle Game Reviews
Jump Maze IPhone Review
Jump Maze is an intriguing, rook jump maze game that involves using the numbers on the square to determine how to get to the G square as quickly as possible. With over 10,000 different puzzles, you can expect to be playing this game for quite some time…sometimes even one for that time.
Graphics: 2
Only one word describes the graphics in Jump Maze – boring. Little time was spent on the graphics themselves and it was obvious. The game is nothing more than colored numbers.
Sounds: 5
The starting music for Jump Maze was quite interesting, but once the game starts, all the music ends. Most of the sounds for the game are a bit annoying, so I would recommend playing it on mute or just turning off the sound on your phone. After the great music in the beginning, I can’t help but feel disappointed.
Game Play: 3
While some puzzles work fine in Jump Maze, other just are unsolvable. After giving the game to various intelligent adults in my household, we determined the puzzle was just unsolvable, unless you were willing to sit at it for an hour. As well, the game sometimes does not follow its own rules, wanting to move three squares instead of the two or four requested on the square.
Options: 2
Jump Maze has very few options and the few options it has rarely work. On multiple occasions I tried using the hint mode for testing and found that the game just crashed or ignored the command. You also should not depend on the tutorial since it is more confusing than helpful for most new puzzle players. At least the option to refresh the puzzle works.
Fun: 2
Jump Maze seemed to have a good idea behind it but really, I think I would prefer going to the dentist. Much of the game seems to be more about chance than logic, making the puzzles seem nearly impossible. The puzzles that are easy to solve have an obvious pattern.
Overall: 3
Unless you have quite a bit of free time, I recommend avoiding Jump Maze. The game is boring and seems to have very little appeal from the start. While it was a fun concept, some of the puzzles are nearly impossible to solve for the everyday person. Unless you consider yourself an expert puzzle gamer, avoid this game. If the game wasn’t free, I would ask for my money back.
