Sam Loyd's last and most technically accomplished puzzle is the "Puzzle of Teddy and the Lion", issued in 1909. The puzzle depicts Theodore Roosevelt surrounded by seven lions and seven spear carrying men and was said to have been inspired by Roosevelt's expedition to collect specimens for the Smithsonian.
